One of the most common questions I am asked is what is one skin care product that will do the most to keep my skin healthy and young, Easy Sunscreen. Allow me to break it down so you'll understand that regardless of your skin tone, the sun does more to age you than anything else, including smoking and drinking.
Many people will tan when they go to the beach or are playing in the sun. That's because of UVB rays. (B=Burning as in sunburn) Thinking you don't need sunscreen to keep your skin healthy and young simply because your tan is misleading. You may have no problem with the UVB rays, but the UVA rays are accelerating the aging (UVA=Aging) process of your skin.
You can google a fantastic photo that is the perfect visual of what I'm saying. Google "Sun damaged truck driver picture". Is an unretouched photo that shows extreme aging on the left side of his face. On the right side of his face, he appears to be in his late 50's. On the left side he appears to be in his late 70's or early 80's .
This is because he never wore sunscreen because he drove a truck for a living. He never burned and was only in his truck and not on the beach. The reason for the striking difference is that his was driving the truck so the sun was coming through the left window and those UVA rays, amplified when coming through glass, aged his skin by decades compared to the right side which rarely was in the sun.
What sunscreen should you use? A broad spectrum so it will absorb both the UVA and the UVB rays and wear it everyday. Yes, even in the winter. If you will be in the sun all day, reapply ever two hours.
Enjoy the outdoors and remember your sunscreen. September is a great month to come see me and together we will erase the old sun damage and let your skin shine!
