Are you looking for more information on botox before your first appointment? We’re answering some common botox questions below.

Botox is the brand name of a drug made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This drug is typically injected to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other imperfections.

Botox injections work by blocking signals sent from the nerves to the muscles. When the signal is blocked, the muscles can’t contract. As a result, wrinkles relax and become less prominent.

Many people receive Botox injections to smooth out the wrinkles on their forehead, around the eyes (crow's feet), and around the mouth (smile lines, laugh lines, etc.).

The cost of Botox varies depending on the number of units you receive during treatment. The larger the area treated, the more units we require.

At Loudon Medical Aesthetics, we offer free consultations. During these consultations, we’ll discuss the procedures you’re interested in (like Botox) and give you an estimate for the cost of your treatment.

Are you worried about the cost of your Botox injections? We also offer financing to make our procedures more accessible.

With our financing options, you can instantly qualify for up to $10,000 with no paperwork or hard credit checks required!

If you’ve seen a Botox before and after picture, you know how impressive results can be from just one round of injections.

Have you ever wondered what happens during a typical Botox procedure, though? Here’s a simple breakdown of what you can expect during your first treatment:

Cleansing/Prepping
After answering any lingering questions about your Botox treatments, the injector will gently clean your skin and prep it for the injections.

You won’t receive any anesthesia before you begin receiving injections. However, some injectors offer numbing cream to help you feel more comfortable during the treatment.

Injections
Once your skin is prepped, it’s time for the injections. The injector will use a small needle to administer the number of units of Botox previously agreed upon (30-40 units is standard for most people).

Botox injections do hurt, especially if you don’t have any kind of numbing cream applied beforehand. However, the pain is temporary, and most consider it pretty mild.

Remember, too, that most Botox appointments last an hour or less, so you won’t be hurting for very long. Preparing for Botox.

You don’t have to do much to prepare for your Botox appointment. However, doing the following can help you set yourself up for a successful treatment and better results:

  • Avoid blood-thinning substances (aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs) for at least a week before your first appointment to reduce the risk of bruising
  • Avoid alcohol for at least a week before your appointment (it’s a blood-thinner that increases your risk of bruising)
  • Avoid intense skin treatments (harsh exfoliants, scrubs, peels, etc.) that may make you more sensitive
  • Stay out of the sun (or wear sunscreen) in the week leading up to your appointment to avoid making your skin more sensitive

  • These simple steps can help you feel more comfortable during your appointment and reduce your chances of experiencing side effects after.

Recovering from Botox You can drive yourself home immediately after receiving your Botox injections. You could even go back to work if you wanted!

Because Botox treatments are minimally invasive, you don’t have to do much to recover. Here are a few dos and don’ts to keep in mind following your injections:

  • Do return to normal activities (work, household chores, etc.)
  • Don’t massage the injected area (this can cause the toxin to spread)
  • Do lay down if you feel like it (your body position won’t cause the toxin to spread or affect the injections’ results)
  • Don’t do any intense exercise for at least 24 hours after treatment
  • Do engage in mild-to-moderate active -- if you want -- just avoid intense training for at least 24 hours)

  • Contact your injector if you have any concerns or questions after your treatment. They’ll be happy to address your concerns and ensure you feel at ease.

Most people notice changes from Botox injections within 1-3 days. However, it may take up to a week to see the full results.

The outcome of Botox injection procedures usually lasts between three and six months. The amount of time your results last depends on the following factors:

  • Personal metabolism
  • Wrinkle size and depth
  • Activity level
  • Botox quality
  • Area treated
  • Facial animation
  • Injector skill and accuracy
  • Amount of Botox injected

  • Keep in mind that your effects will gradually fade.

Establishing a program for ongoing treatments will help you maintain your appearance. Most people schedule treatments every 3-4 months.

Botox injections are safe for most people and don’t produce many side effects. The following are some mild, short-term side effects you might experience:

  • Mild bruising
  • Mild pain
  • Headaches
  • Temporary weakness in facial muscles
  • Decreased range of facial expressions

  • Don’t let these side effects scare you away from getting Botox treatments. They typically go away after a couple of days, leaving you with smoother skin and a more youthful appearance!
